Color conversations

A few honest thoughts on my ongoing back-and-forth with color and what it’s teaching me lately.

Color and I have a relationship — sometimes easy, sometimes complicated. It has a mind of its own, and I’ve learned not to fight it. When I walk into the studio, I never really know which direction things will go. A bright yellow might demand attention, or a deep blue might quietly take over. I try to let it lead.
I’ve realized that the colors I reach for often reflect what’s happening inside me. When life feels calm, my palette softens. When I’m full of ideas and energy, everything gets louder and bolder. It’s funny how honest paint can be — it never hides what’s real.
Lately I’ve been drawn to strong, simple colors — red, blue, yellow — the kind of hues that don’t apologize for being seen. They remind me that art doesn’t always need to be complicated. Sometimes it’s about trusting your instincts and letting color speak first.
That’s really what my Zero Rules series is about — letting go of expectations and painting with freedom. When I stop overthinking and just respond to the moment, color takes the lead, and the rest seems to fall into place.
Here’s to listening to what color wants to say next.
