When people see my work for the first time, they often say something like, “There’s something mid-century about this… but it feels new.” That observation makes me smile. It captures exactly what I’m after: honoring the past while painting in the now.

A Lasting Influence

I’ve been drawn to mid-century modern design and art for as long as I can remember. It’s not just the furniture (though I do love a good Eames chair); it’s the visual language. Bold color blocks, playful geometry, and imperfect symmetry create a sense of clarity and lightness. It embodies a timeless optimism.

As a California-based artist, I feel a natural connection to the spirit of mid-century art. This was a time when artists and designers weren’t afraid to experiment. They distilled form into feeling and blurred the line between fine art and joyful expression. That same fearless freedom is what I aim to bring into each canvas.

Sunlight, Shape, and Soul

In my studio in Laguna Hills, the Southern California light pours in, soft yet firm, shifting throughout the day. This light is a quiet collaborator in my work. It dances across my palette, wakes up my pigments, and inspires color choices that are both nostalgic and vivid.

You’ll find echoes of mid-century influence in my use of organic forms, flat yet emotional color fields, and playful, not harsh, contrast. I’m not trying to replicate the past; I’m in conversation with it. My pieces live in the present, but they nod lovingly toward the era that first taught me that simplicity can be powerful and color can be a language.

Painting the Present, Inspired by the Past

To me, mid-century modern is not a trend. It’s a feeling of balance, optimism, and soulful design. I carry that into my own work by letting shape and color lead the way. I stay curious and allow each painting to unfold naturally.

Whether it’s a large-scale abstract or a small, intuitive piece, I strive to paint with joy and integrity. Just like the artists who came before me, I dare to explore new paths without ever losing sight of beauty.

The Joy of Creation

Creating art is a journey. Each brushstroke is a step forward. I find joy in the process, in the unexpected moments that arise. Sometimes, a splash of color surprises me. Other times, a shape emerges that I didn’t plan. These moments remind me that art is alive. It breathes and evolves.

I invite you to join me on this journey. Let’s explore the vibrant world of color and form together. My studio is a place of discovery, where every canvas tells a story. Each piece is a reflection of my experiences, emotions, and inspirations.

Embracing the Unexpected

Art is not just about the final piece; it’s about the journey to get there. Embracing the unexpected is crucial. It’s in those moments of spontaneity that true creativity flourishes. I encourage you to embrace your own creative process. Let go of perfection and allow yourself to play.

In my workshops, I share this philosophy. I guide participants to explore their creativity without fear. We experiment with colors, shapes, and techniques. It’s a space where everyone can express themselves freely. The joy of creating together is truly uplifting.

A Vibrant Community

Art has a unique way of bringing people together. In my workshops, I’ve seen connections form over shared experiences and laughter. We celebrate each other’s creativity and support one another. This vibrant community is a testament to the power of art.

I believe that everyone has an artist within them. It’s about finding that spark and nurturing it. My goal is to create an environment where individuals feel safe to express themselves. Together, we can explore the beauty of art and its ability to inspire.

The Influence of Nature

Nature plays a significant role in my work. The colors of the ocean, the shapes of the mountains, and the vibrancy of flowers all inspire me. I often find myself taking long walks, soaking in the beauty around me. These experiences fuel my creativity and influence my art.

I encourage you to take a moment to appreciate nature. Notice the colors, the textures, and the forms. Let them inspire you. Nature is a powerful muse, and its beauty can spark creativity in unexpected ways.
